Students Visited the Chamber of Commerce Career Expo

The Kelso-Longview Chamber of Commerce held a career expo yesterday to benefit both students and businesses. It was open to all 8th through 10th graders in Cowlitz and Wahkiakum counties. We sent all 8th graders from the our middle schools as well as any 10th graders from our high schools who were interested in the expo. This allowed our students to see the career opportunities and pathways in our region. Approximately 70 businesses attended!

Severe Weather Information

Each year the district typically faces a week or more of freezing cold weather or snow. If severe weather conditions exist, school district personnel will drive the roads early in the morning to determine if they are safe for bus travel. We work closely with Kelso Schools, the City of Longview and Cowlitz County to evaluate road conditions whenever bad weather exists.

If road conditions are bad the district may delay the start of school or cancel school for the day. Decisions will be made early in the morning and posted to the district web site and Facebook page by 6am each day. Typically, updates are posted throughout the morning as weather and driving conditions change – so check back frequently for updates.

Our Facebook page can be found at www.facebook.com/longviewcshools. If you would rather get messages sent directly to your phone go to www.flashalert.com and sign up for a free messaging service.

The safety and security of our students and staff members is a top priority. If you have questions please don’t hesitate to call your school.

Human Growth & Development Meeting

The state of Washington requires public schools to provide Human Growth & Development education to 4th and 5th grade students. In addition, schools are to provide HIV/AIDS education and prevention to all students each year beginning in the 5th grade, this includes the middle school and high school level.

The Longview School District is holding a meeting in the administration building at 2715 Lilac Street on Thursday, November 14 at 6:00 PM for any parent who has concerns about the materials. All instructional materials for both Human Growth & Development and HIV/AIDS will also be available for review at the district office from Tuesday, November 12 until Friday, November 15 from 9 am – 4 pm.

Following the review of materials, parents who wish to have their child excused from participation in either or both of the programs must sign a release form.  State law requires that a parent or guardian must review the materials before they can have their child or legal ward excused from participation.

Those parents who have no reservations about their child’s participation do not need to attend the meeting.

If you have questions about this correspondence, you may call the Curriculum & Instruction Department at 360-575-7009.
