Human Growth & Development Meeting

The state of Washington requires public schools to provide Human Growth & Development education to 4th and 5th grade students. In addition, schools are to provide HIV/AIDS education and prevention to all students each year beginning in the 5th grade, this includes the middle school and high school level.

The Longview School District is holding a meeting in the administration building at 2715 Lilac Street on Thursday, November 14 at 6:00 PM for any parent who has concerns about the materials. All instructional materials for both Human Growth & Development and HIV/AIDS will also be available for review at the district office from Tuesday, November 12 until Friday, November 15 from 9 am – 4 pm.

Following the review of materials, parents who wish to have their child excused from participation in either or both of the programs must sign a release form.  State law requires that a parent or guardian must review the materials before they can have their child or legal ward excused from participation.

Those parents who have no reservations about their child’s participation do not need to attend the meeting.

If you have questions about this correspondence, you may call the Curriculum & Instruction Department at 360-575-7009.

Urgent Communication

The Longview Police Department has given the district the “All Clear” signal. Any students still at school will now be allowed to take the bus or walk home. Students riding the bus will be dropped off at their normal bus stop. The school district worked closely with the Longview Police Department to keep our students and staff members safe, and to provide families clear information during this incident, and we appreciate your patience.

Safety and security of our students and staff members is our top priority.
